Three Little Words

I want to
feel your breath on my neck when I wake up in the morning
I wake up some mornings imagining you there

I want to
share a walk through the park and feel your hand take mine
I close my eyes and imagine our fingers interlocking

I want to
laugh when you whisper a private joke in my ear
I imagine this when we’re on the phone

I want to
lay on the couch with your arms holding me tight
I dream of days like these when it’s cold and you’re so far away

I want to
look into your eyes when you say the three little words you said to me tonight
I know in my heart you and I were made for one another

So even though we’re a thousand miles apart, those three little words transcend time and distance and translate to “you’re mine”

Goodbye

He walked up to her with open arms
As though no time had passed
As his arms welcomed her
Her eyes welled up with tears
He dropped to his knees and cupped his hands
He caught every one she shed
His knees bled with patience
As she emptied out her heart
Sadness, anger and laughter were emotions she shared
His heart knew she was honest
And he knew that she was hurt
He didn’t argue with her
Only listened as she poured

As her tears stopped falling
And her words slowed, then stopped
He rose and looked her in the eyes
Held her face and pulled it close to his
“I love you with all my heart and only wish for you the best”
He then turned and walked away
As she shed a final tear
Her heart he took with him
And she whispered a final, ‘goodbye’

So much has changed
So much stays the same
As soon as I think I know
Just as quickly I am confused

I love you
You have my heart
I come to you
Ready to be wrapped in your embrace

I arrive
Your arms around me
Cool air brushes my neck
I pull back

You’re the same as when I left
Time changes some things
Others remain the same
Are you enough

Will you be able to sustain me
Or are you like all the rest
As soon as my interest wains
You let me walk away

I left once
With an ache and sadness
That filled me
To the point of tears

Every day
I think about coming back
To your arms
Hoping they will welcome me

Here I am
Once again
Looking to you
To fill my heart

I step back
And look at you
I realize
It’s in me that something is missing

I don’t think there is only one
that can give me what I need
I realize now that as I learn and grow
I need more than you can give

So I step back
With a tear in my eye

don’t let go
the spinning will stop
just wait
it will slow down
so you can see

Okay now
open your eyes
focus
what is there
do you know
what you’re looking at

Breathe
is it real
something tangible
to hold on to
or is it a past
that you can’t let go of

Are you
wishing things were different
that you could go back
and change
the outcome of your actions
so she was still there

Is there
still blame
are you still hurting
do you
wish she would see the light
and come back to you

It’s over
don’t bother
the past
is just that
there is no hope
to resurrect
what might have been

what is around me

Saying
goodbye
the past is the past
I’ve moved on
I’m happy with who I am

Daydream

My eyes flutter
in the early morning light
as it dances through the trees
in my window
and across my bed

For a moment
in my still groggy, slowly waking mind
I believe you are next to me
I feel your arms around me
Your breath on my neck
Your fingers gently caressing my body

The sunlight dances
and wakes me from my groggy haze
I know you aren’t here
You’re not here touching me
Your breath is not on my neck
I close my eyes
Hoping to hold on to my daydream

I hear the door open
I don’t turn
for fear that I will lose the memory
Then I feel
your body
press closely against mine
your fingers
as they trace the outline of my breast
your lips
as they kiss the back of my neck
you
as you enter me
causing me to moan
and pull myself closer to you

The sunlight dances across my bed
As we move in unison
and my daydream
becomes reality
you are here
touching me
caressing me
your breath on my neck

Reality
is so much better
than a daydream
