It sounds so gentle
Rolling off your lips
With ease
At the tips of your fingers
So easy to reach
Usually
Without a thought
Of the pain being caused
If I listen
Pay attention
Read
Between the lines
Look
Actions speak loudly
The pain
The hurt
The agony you bring
Do you think
Of what you do
Of how you crush
And devastate
You may think you are gentle
You may think I don’t know
You aren’t
I do
If you think
You are protecting me
That the truth is worse
That I’ll never understand
That I’ll never forgive
All I ask is
Respect me
Trust me
Believe in me
And know
I’d rather be hurt with truth
Than “protected” with lies

I really like this stanza:
“You may think you are gentle
You may think I don’t know
You aren’t
I do”
Nice poem.
